my roommate's birthday

Today's my dear roommate's birthday!
I'm so happy for her.
I've only known her for about three months now, but she's now one of my dear friends.
Her name is Sae-Ip. How pretty is her name!
Poor Sae-Ip, her birthday is just before the finals, so she said she cannot play on her birthday.
So I decided to surprise her by making a brown-seaweed soup early in the morning.
I bought seaweed and short-necked clams the night before her birthday and decided to wake up at 5 to make her the soup.
My plan was this. She has 9 o'clock class on monday mornings, and I have 1 o'clock, but I was planning on going to the school library early that morning. So I was going to wake up at 5 to make her the soup, and wake her up by saying "Happy birthday~" and then going straight to school. But! When I woke up, it was 6:15. Thankfully, Sae-Ip hadn't waken up yet, so I got up quickly, washed my hair, and began to make the soup. But during the middle of boiling, she woke up! Thankfully (again), she did not took great care of what I was doing and headed straight to the bathroom to wash her hair. I was getting worried that I might not finish before she came out of the bathroom so my hands began to move fast. I finished making the soup and set up the table, and guess what! She came out of the bathroom just in time I was setting up the spoons. And she was very moved. She said thanks, and we ate breakfast together.
That night, my other roommate (I have three roommates) bought cake and we celebrated Sae-Ip's 20th birthday together.
Happy ending.

I am

I am so tired of getting sick all the time.
I was sick right before the midterms, and now I'm sick and finals are coming soon.
I think the reason is that I am too strained up and tensed by the first year of college life because everything's new!
But I think this time the range of my illness has reached its top.
I have lots of stress over homework and finals (this time finals are going to be really hard) and also I have some personal issues.
Also, I am planning on going to China over the vacation, and I just took a TOEIC exam.
I did not mean to complain in the blog but writing somewhere makes me feel slightly better, and I am not bothered because it's English and not only writing here makes me feel better, but my English writing level also improves!
I think I feel much better now.
Just that I got sick last week but it is not getting away that easily.
I have cough so whenever I lie down to sleep, I can't.
Actually, two nights ago I could only sleep for about two hours because of that fact.
Also, I went to the hospital few days ago but did not get better, so I decided to go one more time on Saturday, just that I forgot hospitals close early on Saturday and went there at 4:30 and was disappointed.
But I've noticed earlier that the hospital near school where I usually go also opens on Sundays. I was not sure what time it opens but guessed it opens like the usual time, 8:30. So I took the bus from home and came to the school library at 7:00. I tried to study but could not since my cough was getting worse. I just waited until about 9 to go to the hospital which is about 10 minute walk from school. But guess what!!! When I finally got there, I saw the sign: on Sundays 11:00-5:00.
My heart was broken. I had to go to the church at 11. I could not not go, so I took the bus and got back home, thinking how stupid I am to not ask before.
Let's just hope that I get to go to sleep tonight.

Professor Cameron Wood

Professor Kim announced last week during class that we would be having orientation of "Vocabulary Contest" with Professor Cameron Wood next week, and as announced, we had class with Professor Wood for the first time today. I got to the classroom just by 11 o'clock, but some students came in late. I thought Professor Wood felt a little angry because he locked up the classroom door at 11:05. I think it would have been really embarrasing for the two late students whom Professor Wood had to unlock and let them in.
I imagined Professor Wood to be really thorough and strict, and so he was. He shared a story about one student who've graduated that he never left the library and was very good at English even though he never went outside of the country to learn English. This student, who is now a reporter of Korea Herald, was the same student who came to lecture at our class few weeks before due to Professor Cha's introduction. I wanted to be mentioned like that when I graduate.
Professor Wood scared my class that only 10 percent of a Chung-Ang University graduates get accepted to the Teacher's Exam. I had no idea that the percentage would be that little!
He then told us about the courses of Vocabulary and Pronunciation and also a little about the Vocabulary Contest that will be held in our sophomore year. As I listened to his lecture, I had more passion in my heart that I really want to be an English teacher, I do want to pass the Teacher's Examination, and that I really want to be an A student.

YooHeeYeol's Sketchbook

Sarah got the free ticket to go to YooHeeYeol's Sketchbook and she asked me to go with her!
Since I had no reason to refuse that great chance, I said yes and we went to Yeo-ui do right after class at 2 p.m. But, we had no idea how hard our day would going to be.
It started raining just as we got out of school. Not only was it raining heavily, the wind blew harsh and thunder began to strike. It has not been like this for a long time, and we were stunned. All I wanted to do then was to go home and eat fried dish with hot drinks. But we could not blow our chance just because of the bad weather! So we took the 753 bus heading Yeo-ui do. We both wore skirts and the naughty wind kept blowing our skirts and the rain combined with the wind made us hard to move forward. At last, we got to Yeo-ui do station, but it was not the end. We still did not know how to go to KBS broadcasting station. We had to ask a bunch of people while fighting to move our feet.
But when we finally got into KBS boradcasting station, we could not help but smile, thinking we finally got here on our own! We got our tickets in around 4 o'clock. We had to kill time before meeting in front of the station at 6:30. Since we haven't eaten anything since morning, we decided to eat something extraordinary in front of KBS. Well, there was nothing extraordinary in front of the station and I did not see any celebrities. We went to a Japanese restaurant and ate our dinner. After dinner, we stayed in a cafeteria inside the station, tried to do our homework but end up playing. My head started to ache since last week and continued. That was why I did not want to come tonight, but just could not miss this awesome chance! I thought my pain would go away if I just go to the Sketchbook. Finally, it was time to go in. We went in late so had to stay at the very end, and we were not allowed to take pictures, but it was amazing.
YooHeeYeol's Sketchbook is a show which many singers come, they sing and they talk with MC. I had no idea who would come out so was not expecting any singer whom I would like, but guess what! Park JungHyun, V.O.S., and Park JiYoon were the guests of the show. I especially love the first two singers and I was just so happy that Sarah brought me there. They are terrific singers and my heart just pumped like crazy. I was literally looking at famous singers in Korea with my own eyes! I felt so blessed.
However, when we got out of KBS station at 10, it did not rain but the wind made the weather cold, and my headache came back. I was so sick that when I got back home I changed my clothes and just fell asleep. But I do not regret coming to YooHeeYeol's Sketchbook tonight.
Even though I did not study for the exam the whole day, I did not get stressed but felt really happy, thinking about how I will boast in front of my peers tomorrow.

always writing about my sickness

I went to Mr. Roh's funeral on Friday. It was too hot with lots of people standing, so I started to feel sick.
The next day, I had to stand up outside for two whole hours for the church project in hot, dry weather that I felt like fainting.
On Sunday morning, I went to take TOEFL at a local middle school close to Chung-Ang University, and had to go back to church right after the exam was over. I already felt sick and got sick even more.
I have to study for the finals from Monday, and what do I do now that it is hard for me to even stand up.

연극

I went to Dae-hak Road with my friend today to see a comic play, Romeo and Juliet.
I've never seen a play before because I like watching movies, but my friend recommended that this one is great and popular.
It indeed was. The people were not famous, but it was really fun. First of all, it was comic, and there were four Romeos and four Juliets and we voted which Romeo and Juliet's acting we wanted to see. So the eight actors and actresses had 16 scenarios all planned and prepared!
It was a full two-hour play, and I do not regret coming here.
It was a great play. I really want to come to Dae-hak Road again.

TOEIC

I have TOEIC exam on May 31st.
It's my first time taking TOEIC so I'm nervous.
Today is May 13th, but I did not study at all.
I'm nervous.

12 May, 2009

studying

During mid-term exams, I was worrying about Linguistics and the History of the English Language so much that I did not pay that much attention to Understanding of the English Education because it seemed easier than the first two. I did so-so in the first two exams, but I had no idea that I would score that bad in Understanding of the English Education class.
I think I should study more from now.
I already payed for my TOEIC exam on May 31st but I did not study for that yet.
I must study more from now.
Today in Linguistics class, we learned about Phonology, but I could not understand a single word due to my lack of studying the night before.
I was planning on staying awake the whole night for the quiz in Linguistics today.
I stayed up until 3 a.m., but I did not study.
I was helping out someone I know who asked me to translate something,
but I had time to study but I did not.
I did not do well on the quiz.

MT

We went to MT from May 4th to 5th.
It was our first MT for just the freshmen.
We had nobody to bother telling us what our schedule was, and we had no one to fill ill at ease.
Almost everybody at my class went to the MT, and it was time to get to know more about each other.
It was so much fun, although we had trouble getting there, it was okay since it was our first MT.
I feel like I now know more about my classmates, what they like, what they don't like, etc.
I think we could be closer friends in the future.
I look forward to do more things together.

Desigining my blog is so much fun,

studying for 'Linguistics' and 'the History of English Language' is not.

Thinking about who I am

Studying is hard
It's so much different from how I've studied in highschool
College life is so much different from what I've expected
Right now, I'm confused about who I am

It's spring, but mid-terms are coming

It's spring!
Today morning before I came to school, I checked the weather on internet and I realized it's 20 degrees today.
So I decided to wear short-sleeved t-shirt, but decided to wear something on top just in case it might be cold at night.
I spent the shiny morning in the library at the 2nd floor at Chung-Ang Artcenter, but I could not concentrate on study since I hadn't been in a library since last September.
I thought I am a hard-working student, actually I thought my self as a little genius as my mom often called me.
But I realized that there are so many good students around me, so many hard-working students and so many geniuses. I realized yesterday that all of my classmates were good students in highschool and that many of them had been accepted to this university with scholarship.
I was shocked at the news because I thought I was smart.
And I realized how I have been playing this last few precious months since I've been accepted to college.
I want to be a English teacher, I want to be good, I want people to know me because of how good I am. I want my parents to be proud of me, I want to show the people how I have grown.
I know college is different from the life I've been in the past. Before, the teachers have given me all the information I needed to know and they checked whether I've been doing work. However, right now I have to make all the decisions and make plan for my life.
I do not know what my life would be in the future. I want someone to show me my future, I want to know what I would be in 10 years from now.
I am afraid to make all the decisions by myself.
I want to go play today after school, but I am going back to the library at Chung-Ang Artcenter to study. I am not sure if I can study until 10 p.m. as I promised myself. But I am going to stay at school until night because that way I feel safe and comforted, even though actually I am not ready for the mid-term exams.
I feel like my friends are going to criticize me if I do not get a good grade this semester, because I am not going playing with them. I think I will be dissapointed at myself also.
I also want to enjoy myself as a freshman at college but I think I will go back to the library today.

LIBRARY

I cannot believe Mid-term exams are coming so quickly!
I was so busy on the first month of college life that I didnot care so much about school work, and right now I am so worried that my grades won't be so good.
My parents are expecting me to be a good girl and study hard, because these days it is so hard to get into any job.
But I think I have been enjoying college life too much.
The professors are beginning to tell us about the mid-term exams, but we donot know yet what and how different the exams will be from the tests we took before at highschool.

There are less than two weeks until the exams, so my friends and I decided to study hard since the subjects we are learning are so difficult to understand. We went to the library since yesterday and promised each other to go there as often as possible. Time is ticking away and soon mid-terms and finals will approach. I want to be ready when the time comes.

Membership Training

My department went to Membership Training on March 27-28.
It was so much fun, even though it was tiring cause there was no time to rest.
I've never been to a MT before, so I wondered what was going to happen there.
My expectation grew much more as the bus arrived in Il-san YMCA.
Firstly, we met with the teachers, and then we we went out directly for sports activities.
We played dodge ball with the teachers, then the boys and the girls split apart to play soccer and baseball using feet.
It was so cold, and the girls were not used to playing baseball, we finished early and watched the boys playing.
The highlight of the sports activities was relay. Even though I did not participate, we all enjoyed people racing and had so much fun.
The sports activities were very tiring, but we could not rest, after dinner was time for our performance !!!
We practiced and practiced, then, it was time for 'Night of English Education Department'.
The professors also performed, and it was amazing. I was very shocked to see how great singers the professors were!
Because the professors were such amazing singers, we had more pressure since we could not practice that much.
But, the performance was a hugh success. The professors seemed to enjoy and we enjoyed watching each other perform.
After the performance time, we had no time to rest. We went out to dance and then came back to play all night.
There was no school bus to return home so all of us had to come back home individually.
I came back home and slept until the next morning.
MT was so much fun but so tiring.

25 March, 2009

hard, but fun

We took our first quiz in Linguistics.

It was open book, but I do not think I did well because I've been playing too much lately.

The professor gave us one week to prepare for the quiz, but I did not study because it was too hard and too much.

There were about 10 people who got full credits on the quiz.

Everyone said they did not study even little bit so I was quite surprised at how many students got full points.

The professor told us to read 2 pages of Linguistics everyday, then we will pass the exam and understand.

I told myself, I promised myself that I will follow his idea, but did not fulfill this dream for a week now.

I should really start studying now since many of my classmates are secretly studying at home.

17 March, 2009

Exhausted

There are too many activities that I'm so tired and exhausted right now.

It is good that I get to meet many new friends in college, but it is so tiring

that many of my friends have already gotten sick.

There are also many homework even though it is just the beginning of the school year,

which let me imagine how hard it would be in the future.

The professors are all nice and teach well, but the subjects are hard for me to understand.

However, it does not mean I am going to give up.

I will try my best to succeed in both human relationship and the school work.

a new day, a new start !

A new day, a new start!

I'm so excited to begin a new chapter of my life.
I'm happy to meet everyone in my class and all the new professors,
and I think we could all become good friends.
I was born in southern part of Korea but I spent most of my school years in Shenyang, China,
as my father was a missionary.
I wanted to become a teacher since I was young because I've met three great teachers until now
and I also like to be one who can influence other people's lives.
I came back to Korea last year to enter university in Korea,
and I'm so glad I got accepted to this university since it was one of my dream universities.
I'm excited to begin as a freshman,
and I'd like to learn more about this course because I think it could help me fulfill my dream.

Love ya ♥
