The early bird catches the worms

'The early bird catches the worm.'

제목에서도 봤듯이, 'The early bird catches the worm. ‘일찍 일어난 새가 벌레를 잡는다’는 이 속담은 무엇이든 남보다 먼저 부지런히 해야 득을 본다는 뜻이다.
ex) Let’s leave before six o’clock tomorrow morning. Remember, the early bird catches the worm.

'A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.'
ex) Keep the prize and don't try to bet it again to win more.
Don't forget a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

'Kill two birds with one stone.' '
ex) While I was on a business trip to Germany, I was able to see some World Cup soccer games. It was like killing two birds with one stone.

ex) Don`t blame your friends. They are just like you.
Remember that birds of a feather flock together.

A : How did you know it was my birthday today?
B : Oh, a little birdie told me.
그러니까 "A little birdie told me."

my roommate's birthday

Today's my dear roommate's birthday!
I'm so happy for her.
I've only known her for about three months now, but she's now one of my dear friends.
Her name is Sae-Ip. How pretty is her name!
Poor Sae-Ip, her birthday is just before the finals, so she said she cannot play on her birthday.
So I decided to surprise her by making a brown-seaweed soup early in the morning.
I bought seaweed and short-necked clams the night before her birthday and decided to wake up at 5 to make her the soup.
My plan was this. She has 9 o'clock class on monday mornings, and I have 1 o'clock, but I was planning on going to the school library early that morning. So I was going to wake up at 5 to make her the soup, and wake her up by saying "Happy birthday~" and then going straight to school. But! When I woke up, it was 6:15. Thankfully, Sae-Ip hadn't waken up yet, so I got up quickly, washed my hair, and began to make the soup. But during the middle of boiling, she woke up! Thankfully (again), she did not took great care of what I was doing and headed straight to the bathroom to wash her hair. I was getting worried that I might not finish before she came out of the bathroom so my hands began to move fast. I finished making the soup and set up the table, and guess what! She came out of the bathroom just in time I was setting up the spoons. And she was very moved. She said thanks, and we ate breakfast together.
That night, my other roommate (I have three roommates) bought cake and we celebrated Sae-Ip's 20th birthday together.
Happy ending.

I am

I am so tired of getting sick all the time.
I was sick right before the midterms, and now I'm sick and finals are coming soon.
I think the reason is that I am too strained up and tensed by the first year of college life because everything's new!
But I think this time the range of my illness has reached its top.
I have lots of stress over homework and finals (this time finals are going to be really hard) and also I have some personal issues.
Also, I am planning on going to China over the vacation, and I just took a TOEIC exam.
I did not mean to complain in the blog but writing somewhere makes me feel slightly better, and I am not bothered because it's English and not only writing here makes me feel better, but my English writing level also improves!
I think I feel much better now.
Just that I got sick last week but it is not getting away that easily.
I have cough so whenever I lie down to sleep, I can't.
Actually, two nights ago I could only sleep for about two hours because of that fact.
Also, I went to the hospital few days ago but did not get better, so I decided to go one more time on Saturday, just that I forgot hospitals close early on Saturday and went there at 4:30 and was disappointed.
But I've noticed earlier that the hospital near school where I usually go also opens on Sundays. I was not sure what time it opens but guessed it opens like the usual time, 8:30. So I took the bus from home and came to the school library at 7:00. I tried to study but could not since my cough was getting worse. I just waited until about 9 to go to the hospital which is about 10 minute walk from school. But guess what!!! When I finally got there, I saw the sign: on Sundays 11:00-5:00.
My heart was broken. I had to go to the church at 11. I could not not go, so I took the bus and got back home, thinking how stupid I am to not ask before.
Let's just hope that I get to go to sleep tonight.

English Classes to be Conducted in English by 2012

06-05-2009
By Kang Shin-woo
Staff Reporter

The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education said it plans to establish a system to ensure that all Korean English teachers can conduct English-only classes by 2012 from the current 58 percent.

Under the plan, the education office governing all elementary and secondary schools in the city will introduce a Teaching English in English (TEE) Certificate for English teachers beginning in the fall semester. The city currently has 4,678 English teachers at secondary schools and 3,800 at elementary schools.

"We will issue the certificate to teachers who are able to conduct classes in English and continue to encourage more and more teachers to acquire the certificate," said Yoon Ho-sang, senior supervisor at the education office. "Those who hold the certificate can get incentives in personnel placement."

Yoon said the TEE system will help boost parents’ trust in public education and reduce private education costs.

There are two types of TEE certificates; TEE-Ace and TEE-Master. To obtain TEE-Ace, teachers should have more than three years experience and a minimum of 30 TEE training points.

They are also required to pass the level 2 Teaching Knowledge Test (TKT) and Teaching Practice Test (TPT), developed by the Korea Institute for Curriculum and Evaluation.

Teachers are eligible for the TEE-Master certificate once they have seven years experience and a minimum of 80 TEE training points. They must also pass the level 3 TKT and TPT and complete an intensive two-week training program.

Professor Cameron Wood

Professor Kim announced last week during class that we would be having orientation of "Vocabulary Contest" with Professor Cameron Wood next week, and as announced, we had class with Professor Wood for the first time today. I got to the classroom just by 11 o'clock, but some students came in late. I thought Professor Wood felt a little angry because he locked up the classroom door at 11:05. I think it would have been really embarrasing for the two late students whom Professor Wood had to unlock and let them in.
I imagined Professor Wood to be really thorough and strict, and so he was. He shared a story about one student who've graduated that he never left the library and was very good at English even though he never went outside of the country to learn English. This student, who is now a reporter of Korea Herald, was the same student who came to lecture at our class few weeks before due to Professor Cha's introduction. I wanted to be mentioned like that when I graduate.
Professor Wood scared my class that only 10 percent of a Chung-Ang University graduates get accepted to the Teacher's Exam. I had no idea that the percentage would be that little!
He then told us about the courses of Vocabulary and Pronunciation and also a little about the Vocabulary Contest that will be held in our sophomore year. As I listened to his lecture, I had more passion in my heart that I really want to be an English teacher, I do want to pass the Teacher's Examination, and that I really want to be an A student.

YooHeeYeol's Sketchbook

Sarah got the free ticket to go to YooHeeYeol's Sketchbook and she asked me to go with her!
Since I had no reason to refuse that great chance, I said yes and we went to Yeo-ui do right after class at 2 p.m. But, we had no idea how hard our day would going to be.
It started raining just as we got out of school. Not only was it raining heavily, the wind blew harsh and thunder began to strike. It has not been like this for a long time, and we were stunned. All I wanted to do then was to go home and eat fried dish with hot drinks. But we could not blow our chance just because of the bad weather! So we took the 753 bus heading Yeo-ui do. We both wore skirts and the naughty wind kept blowing our skirts and the rain combined with the wind made us hard to move forward. At last, we got to Yeo-ui do station, but it was not the end. We still did not know how to go to KBS broadcasting station. We had to ask a bunch of people while fighting to move our feet.
But when we finally got into KBS boradcasting station, we could not help but smile, thinking we finally got here on our own! We got our tickets in around 4 o'clock. We had to kill time before meeting in front of the station at 6:30. Since we haven't eaten anything since morning, we decided to eat something extraordinary in front of KBS. Well, there was nothing extraordinary in front of the station and I did not see any celebrities. We went to a Japanese restaurant and ate our dinner. After dinner, we stayed in a cafeteria inside the station, tried to do our homework but end up playing. My head started to ache since last week and continued. That was why I did not want to come tonight, but just could not miss this awesome chance! I thought my pain would go away if I just go to the Sketchbook. Finally, it was time to go in. We went in late so had to stay at the very end, and we were not allowed to take pictures, but it was amazing.
YooHeeYeol's Sketchbook is a show which many singers come, they sing and they talk with MC. I had no idea who would come out so was not expecting any singer whom I would like, but guess what! Park JungHyun, V.O.S., and Park JiYoon were the guests of the show. I especially love the first two singers and I was just so happy that Sarah brought me there. They are terrific singers and my heart just pumped like crazy. I was literally looking at famous singers in Korea with my own eyes! I felt so blessed.
However, when we got out of KBS station at 10, it did not rain but the wind made the weather cold, and my headache came back. I was so sick that when I got back home I changed my clothes and just fell asleep. But I do not regret coming to YooHeeYeol's Sketchbook tonight.
Even though I did not study for the exam the whole day, I did not get stressed but felt really happy, thinking about how I will boast in front of my peers tomorrow.

always writing about my sickness

I went to Mr. Roh's funeral on Friday. It was too hot with lots of people standing, so I started to feel sick.
The next day, I had to stand up outside for two whole hours for the church project in hot, dry weather that I felt like fainting.
On Sunday morning, I went to take TOEFL at a local middle school close to Chung-Ang University, and had to go back to church right after the exam was over. I already felt sick and got sick even more.
I have to study for the finals from Monday, and what do I do now that it is hard for me to even stand up.
